“When in doubt, wear red.”
I am LOVING this gorgeous red bustier romper that I got from ASOS a while back! Super happy because there is FINALLY a romper that looks flattering on me! When rompers first emerged as a trend I was rather depressed because more often than not, they don’t look flattering on fuller girls who have thicker waists and a lower waist-hip ratio as they tend to make us look more square and stout. I personally know many friends who skip the romper option because they can’t find one that flatters them!
Here are three simple tips for finding the perfect romper:
1. Choose a thicker waistband
This is super important for girls with thicker waists as it will define your figure more. Opt for a romper that has a visual cut-off point for the transition from torso to waist to further emphasize the waist. A colour block scheme like the one I have will also create a similar effect! Slimmer girls can afford to go for rompers that transit smoothly from torso to waist print and design wise, or even ones with peek-a-boo details at the waist.
2. It’s all about the neckline
For shorter and more petite girls, go for lower necklines such as the deeper sweetheart neckline I’m wearing here! It will expose the flattering decolletage and visually lengthen your torso. A structured bustier like mine will also define your torso and add to the waist-cinching effect. For lankier girls, you can definitely go for higher necklines and looser, strappy options! You can read more about necklines here.
3. Select a skim bottom
Ok, you must be wondering – what is a “skim”bottom? A skim bottom is one that, quite simply, skims over your thighs and tummy. You can choose a skater skirt or flared shorts that loosely skims over the tummy. Even if it is a structured shorts like mine, it’s best to pick rompers with bottom detailing such as lace or some pleats to conceal any unflattering bulge. You can read more about skirt bottoms here.
Because the romper exposes quite a bit of skin, I opted to wear my white sandals to soften and dress down the look so my outfit doesn’t scream “look at me”. Also a plus when I had to climb up and down a slope during my staycay (post up soon, promise!).
