OMG OMG OMG.
I have been dying to visit bunny island for AGES ever since I got to know of its existence! My grad trip has me going to a Bunny Cafe in Tokyo (post coming up real soon!), and to Okunoshima the famous bunny island.
hahaha look who was sleeping with a bunny in his arms! This train ride was like two hours omg. I actually stayed in Osaka one extra day just to make this day trip out to the farrrr away island. The nerd told me we bought the rail pass because of this trip because apparently overall it was more worth it. The place is quite troublesome to get to, as you have to stop somewhere and change the train but that train only comes once every hour.
We went to have a quick lunch and bought some food for the bunnies at the Aeon shopping centre at the pit stop station that I forgot the name of.
Full on Bunny mode at Tadanoumi!
Walked a short distance from the station to this Bunny Island shop where you can buy bunny food, snacks and tickets for the boat ride. When you exit from the train station, turn right and walk for about five minutes. If I don’t remember wrongly, you will pass by a hospital. The port town is very quiet and peaceful!
Bought some gourmet food for the bunnies because I saw videos of domestic bunnies eating these! Actually some of the wild bunnies aren’t that keen to eat these so you have to find those that are willing to eat these. But be careful not to feed them too many as these are high in sugar. Be careful about what you bring to feed the bunnies! Carrots are actually very high in sugar and they are only supposed to eat carrot tops once in a while. Buy more leafy greens, such as xiao bai cai! Which I actually googled on the spot and specially went to the shopping centre Aeon at our pit stop just to get it.
We also got one packet of the bunny feed which if you bring back the empty one to the shop, you can exchange it for a postcard of some cute bunnies!
Selfie while waiting for the ferry to come back from bunny island! We were patiently waiting in queue ~
Our ferry that was quite a comfortable size so I didn’t get any motion sickness, also pretty clean and well-kept!
Every row of seats has an information brochure about the bunnies and this is the ferry timetable. The second column is the time of departure from Tadanoumi port!
Beautiful view from Okunoshima
My lunch that I got from the rabbit shop! Was quite glad I decided to buy some food there as the only eatery on the island was some really fancy restaurant and I wasn’t prepared to burn a hole in my pocket so be sure to bring some food for yourself!
Bunny showdown for the xbc
You definitely don’t get a swarmp of bunnies coming after you because they’re so well-fed from the flocks of tourists coming to the island every fourty minutes or so. And since they’re so used to humans, they will actually come very close to you and are daring enough to eat out of your palm!
We stayed about one hour on the island because we were planning to explore Osaka more! Would definitely love to stay at the Bunny Island Hotel when we return! I miss these bunnies already…
Boarded the wrong train and got stuck at the next stop for a while so decided to snap a quick ootd hahaha.
Till next time!
